Behind the experience

Keep the whole exam in view.

exam-pacer is an offline exam timer that goes beyond counting down. It includes banked time, a reserve for review and restoration of a session.

The tool is published as zero-dependency, MIT-licensed software. Its focus is managing the pace of a complete exam rather than treating every minute as an isolated countdown.

Case study

A timer that accounts for the shape of an exam.

Exam Pacer separates question pacing, banked time and review time in a compact browser tool.

The pacing problem

A single countdown shows how much time remains, but not whether the current question is taking too long or whether there will be time left to review. The interface puts the current question, per-question allowance, banked time and overall remaining time together.

Make the assumptions adjustable

The setup exposes the number of questions, seconds per question, total exam duration and reserve buffer. An even-split comparison helps the user see the relationship between the overall allowance and the chosen pace.

Quick controls during a session

Start, Skip and Reset remain directly available. The page documents Space for start/pause, the right arrow for skipping and R for reset, reducing the need to hunt through settings while working.

A portable implementation

The public project is described as zero-dependency and offline, with session restore and an MIT licence. The result is a focused pacing tool that can run without an account or a hosted exam service.
