Aristotle & Data Vault — Interactive Companion

Lorenzo Colombani

Connect Aristotle’s substance, relations and accidents to Data Vault Hubs, Links and Satellites. Change an object’s colour, location or relationships and watch the database log respond.

Behind the experience

Change the object. Watch its data history respond.

The interactive companion makes Aristotle’s categories and Data Vault visible side by side. An object has an identity, properties and relationships; the laboratory lets the visitor change them.

Paint it, move it, cycle a relationship or replace the substance with a new identity. The database log shows how those changes relate to Hubs, Links and Satellites.

Case study

Make an abstract distinction visible through a change.

The companion turns the essay’s comparison between Aristotle and Data Vault into a small laboratory with an object, controls and a live database log.

The learning problem

Identity, relationships and changing properties are easy to blur together when they remain abstract terms. The page places Substance, Relation and Accident beside Hub, Link and Satellite, then makes the visitor change a concrete object.

Controls that isolate the idea

Paint Object changes a property. Move Object changes location. Cycle Relationship changes a connection. Replace Substance creates a new identity. Each control isolates a different part of the comparison instead of asking the learner to absorb the entire model at once.

Feedback beside the experiment

The database log is shown in the same view as the object. Hub, Link and Satellite tables let the visitor connect an action to the kind of record it produces, and Reset Simulation makes the sequence repeatable.

An analogy with its own limits

The companion supports the article’s philosophical comparison; it is not a full Data Vault implementation. Its concrete result is an explorable learning model that can be tried directly in the portfolio.
